The birth of a dragon-quilt

What to do you do when you need to pack up your room? Exactly! You start on a new massive project . The little dude/dudette (I am not sure yet) is going to be an awesome dragon quilt. The idea of this quilt rose when I was sad about the fact that I never did anything with dragons anymore. I've been kinda obsessed with quilting lately and dragons don't feature in them often, unfortunately. Also, sometimes I feel the urge to be all serious and grown up and I don't always catch that mood quick enough to nip it in the mood.

Anyway, for this project I'm going to use a combination of applique, patchwork and some experimental techniques (to me at least). Also, I will be using a lot of shiny fabric. It's going to be a dragon after all.

Usually when I need a pattern for something I draw it out on newspapers. This works fine for me because I don't always like to work super precise and it's cheap. Not the whole dragon is on the newspaper, but this will give me a basic shape to start with. Other appendages will be added later in the process when I have thought of how. First I have some ideas of how to make the scales I'm eager to try. I love organic projects like this, which just keep on growing and evolving while you work on it.

Later I decided to skip the horn on the nose. It makes it look to much like a rhino with it. So, that's my new project. I'm working on the monthly update post for June now, which means a lot of new updates from runnign projects will be coming soon from my side .
